Hi there! I’m Sydney and I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Atlanta, GA. While studying Fine Art at Clemson University was where I first began exploring the relationship between art-making and personal reflection, I cannot remember a single year of life where I was not drawn to creating in some way.
As a painter and printmaker, my past work used natural elements and layer to explore and convey the complexities of growth in the human experience. It not only served as a method of reflection, but it operated as an attempt to humanize, unify, and celebrate all who navigate such a journey.
I am still drawn to themes that convey such a journey. My current work often explores themes related to connection, community, and the process of delighting in ordinary moments that could easily be overlooked.
In a world that is obsessed with doing things as quickly as possible, my art-making methods serve as a way to exercise this: good things take time. Growth takes time. Healing takes time. Real connection takes time. Real community takes time. (Plus, as someone who often creates paintings based on her film photography, what is more dramatic than having to wait for an entire roll to be shot, developed, and then spend weeks working on a painting just to convey a single moment in time? Talk about delighting in an ordinary moment!)
In short, my work is often inspired by the stuff that makes us human. The good stuff. The hard stuff. The complicated and ironic stuff. Sometimes it’s inspired by a good color palette and is pretty for pretty’s sake while other times it may be from a deeply personal space.
With whatever work is to come from that, I hope you enjoy.
