Maybe you’ve heard of the phrase. In 2023 it took the internet by storm when it was used to affectionately describe the (often female) way of taking random, usually snack-like, food items and creating something that could resemble dinner.

Ironically, it is also in female spaces where I also find myself exposed to shared meals where no details are spared. Candles are lit. Picnics are set. A bread is handmade for crying out loud. The aesthetic matters! (And if you’re like me, your Camera Roll is filled with documentation of said aesthetic.)

That said, perhaps Girl Dinner is both. It can be the modge-podge arrangement of whatever you have in your fridge just as much as it can be the beautiful table scape and the labors of love expressed in the form of food and drink. This series is a tribute to both.

Ultimately, Girl Dinner is a tribute to the spaces where much is made out of little.
